Well here is June, the beginning of summer, and this is our first newsletter of 2010. Honestly,
where has the time gone. Work, school and family activities, along with day-to-day ranch
operations continue to keep us very busy.
The year since our last newsletter of Spring 2009 has been a whirlwind. We said good-bye to
two of our sale horses, Mysandro VF in May of 2009 and Om El Nariya Dream in January of
2010. We wish their new owners much success!
On a much sadder note, we said a final good-bye to our beautiful foundation mare, Kanatasha.
She died peacefully on Oct. 1, 2009 at the age of 26. "Kenna," as she was known in the barn, was
an extraordinary mare, who joined our family in June of 1994. She had an amazing
presence...filled with kindness and dignity. She gave us two beautiful foals, our 2001 stallion,
Kanalisto, and our 2005 gelding, Barich El Shahmaan. We are so blessed to have had Kenna in
our lives, and we are grateful to have her sons to continue her legacy.
Barich El Shahmaan returned from training with Joanne Fox in the Spring of 2009 and was
supposed to head up to Santa Ynez after a brief vacation at home to train and show with Ali
Brady. Well, that brief vacation turned into a year. Barich turned out to be such an amazing trail
horse that Jamie could not resist keeping him home to enjoy peaceful trail rides together. In the
meantime our 2006 gelding, El Patrón BGR , went to ABCentre to start under saddle. Ali did an
outstanding job with Patrón, who is developing into an excellent pleasure horse. Barich El
Shahmaan finally arrived at ABCentre in March to continue his training, and we are now looking
forward to his first show under saddle at Region 2 in Santa Barbara. Barich will show with Ali
Brady in Hunter Junior Horse and with Jamie in Hunter AAOTR and ATR Select.
On April 25 Barich El Shahmaan took a break from his training and traveled with Jamie to
Moorpark for the trail ride at Happy Camp Canyon Regional Park, sponsored by the AHASFV .
The weather and wildflowers were spectacular! These quarterly trail rides are great fun for horses
and riders, and we highly recommend them.
Thank you for allowing us to share our ranch activities with you. "Happy Trails" to you this
summer. Take care and God Bless,
Summer 2010 Newsletter
